課程概述

COURSE SCHEDULE:
1. 1ST WEEK: INTRODUCTION
1) TO DISCUSS THE RELEVANCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK, INTERNATIONAL FIELD WORK PLACEMENTS AND ITS RELATION WITH THE CONCEPT OF GLOBALIZATION.
2) TO EXPLORE THE HISTORY OF NTU INTERNATIONAL FIELD WORK AND ITS ARRANGEMENT REFLECTING THE PIONEER ROLE AMONG VARIOUS LOCAL UNIVERSITIES IN ORGANIZING INTERNATIONAL FIELD PLACEMENT.
3) TO BRIEF THE EXPERIENCES AND COLLECTIVE VIEWS OF STUDENTS AND SUPERVISORS IN OVERSEAS FIELD PLACEMENTS.

2. 2ND TO 3RD WEEK: DEFINITION, RATIONALE AND FUNCTION OF INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK
1) TO FURTHER DEFINE THE TERM “INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK”, RAGING FROM NARROW TO BROAD (NAGY & FALK, 2000; ROBERT BARKER, 1995; JOHANNESSEN, 1997)
2) TO REVIEW THE POSSIBLE RATIONALES AND FUNCTIONS OF INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL WORK,INCLUDING INDIVIDUAL LEVEL, LOCAL LEVEL AND INTERNATIONAL LEVEL. (HOKENSTAD AND MIDGLEY, 1997; LYONS, 1999; HEALY, 2001)

3. 4RD TO 5TH WEEK : GLOBAL SOCIAL WORK
1) TO ADDRESS THAT SOCIAL WORK PROFESSION FOR TAKING UP RESPONSIBILITY TO WORK WITH PROBLEMS AND POLICES GENERATED IN THE GLOBAL ERA (HEALEY, 2001)
2) TO EXPLORE THE VALUE OF WORLD-MINDEDNESS AND GLOBAL SOCIAL WORK COMPETENCE MUCH BE CULTIVATED AND EMPHASIZED IN THE FUTURE SOCIAL WORK DEVELOPMENT. (KENDALL, 1996)
3) TO INFORM THE FUTURE SOCIAL WORKERS TO WORK IN THE GLOBAL ERA IS TO EXPLORE TO AND ACCOMMODATION OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY. (HEALY, 2001).
4) TO CULTIVATE THE SENSE OF SOCIAL WORKER IN THE FURE WITH “REFLECTIVE PRACTITIONERS (SCHON, 1983).

4. 6TH TO 7TH WEEK: CAPACITY-BUILDING WITH CULTURAL COMPETENCIES
1) TO INFORM STUDENT THAT INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE SERVE TO EXTEND THE EXPOSURE OF THE STUDENTS TO AN INTERNATIONAL HORIZON, AND TO RAISE THEIR CULTURAL COMPETENCIES. (LENA DOMINELLI, 2003)
2) TO EXPRESS THAT EXPLORING AND UNDERSTANDING AND OF SPECIFIC CULTURAL BELIEFS, PRACTICES, AND HISTORICAL INTER-GROUP CONNECTIONS INFORMED CULTURALLY SENSITIVE PRACTICES AND FACILITATES MULTICULTURAL AWARENESS ( CHAU, 1990).

5. 7TH TO 9TH WEEK: THE EXPERIENCES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK, NTU FROM 2006~2009
1) THE CURRICULUM AND PROGRAM OF INTERROGATIONAL SUMMER PLACEMENT OF THE NATIONAL TAIWAN UNIVERSITY
2) THE EXPERIENCES AND REFLECTION OF INTERNATIONAL FIELD PROGRAM IN NEW YORK
3) THE EXPERIENCES AND REFLECTION OF INTERNATIONAL FIELD WORK PROGRAM IN HONG KONG
4) THE EXPERIENCES AND REFLECTION OF INTERNATIONAL FIELD WORK PROGRAM IN OTHER COUNTRIES SUCH AS CANADA…

10. 10TH TO 12TH WEEKS: SELECTION, ARRANGEMENT OF PLACEMENT AGENCIES, AND COLLABORATION WITH OVERSEAS UNIVERSITIES
1) TO DISCUSS THE SELECTION OF THE STUDENTS VOLUNTARILY OPTING FOR INTERNATIONAL PLACEMENT ARE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO A SELECTION INTERVIEW BY THE DEPARTMENT STAFF.
2) TO ADDRESS ESSENTIAL QUALITIES SUCH AS LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY, MATURITY, PRESENTATION, ANALYTICAL THINKING, KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICES, ADAPTABILITY, WILLINGNESS TO ACCEPT CHALLENGE AND ENTHUSIASM TO HELP OTHERS ARE THE CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED (ROYSE ET AL., 1999; SAMMON, WHITAKER AND BARLOW, 2003).
3) TO DISCUSS HOW TO ARRANGE PLACEMENT AGENCIES AND CONNECT WITH THESE AGENCIES BY THE PERSONAL RELATIONS WITH MANY SOCIAL WORK PRACTITIONERS WHO ARE ALUMNI, AND WHO MIGRATED TO OVERSEAS COUNTRIES. TO GAIN THE SUPPORT AND HELP IS CRUCIAL.

11. 13TH TO 15TH WEEKS: SELF- EXPLORATION AND INTERNATIONAL FIELD WORK
1) TO WRITE PROPOSAL FOR INTERNATIONAL FIELD PLACEMENT.
2) TO PRESENT DISCUSS SELF-PREPARATION AND READINESS.

12. 16TH ~17TH WEEK: FINAL REPORT DISCUSSION.

 

課程目標
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. THE COURSE WILL EXPLORE THE VALUES OF INTENTIONAL EXPOSURES IN ENHANCING SELF-AWARENESS, CULTURAL SENSITIVITY, FLEXIBILITY, ADAPTABILITY AND CREATIVITY IN PRACTICE FOR STUDENTS.
2. THE COURSE WILL INFORM THE STUDENT THE JOURNEY FOR PREPARING, APPLYING AND TAKING ABROAD FIELD WORK AND GAINING THE TRAINING IN OTHER COUNTRIES INCLUDING UNITED STATES , HONG KONG, KOREA, AND SINGAPORE.
3. THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE STUDENT WITH THAT INTERNATIONAL FIELD WORK PLACEMENTS REQUIRES NOT ONLY MORE FINANCIAL SUPPORT BUT ALSO INTENSIVE COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION WITH OVERSEAS PARTNERS, NAMELY WELFARE ORGANIZATIONS AND UNIVERSITIES.
4. THE COURSE WILL GIVE STUDENT THE IDEA ABOUT THE HOW THE EVALUATION CAN BE DONE IN THE INTERNATIONAL FIELD PLACEMENT. SYSTEMATIC EVALUATION THOUGH REVIEWING STUDENT RECORDS AND FOCUS GROUPS WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS SHOWED THE MOTIVATION EXPERIENCES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES.
5. THE COURSE WILL INITIATE THE STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND THAT STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO PRACTICE NEW MODES OF INTERVENTIONS WHICH MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IN TAIWAN.
6. THE COURSE WILL PREPARE STUDENTS TO KNOW, MORE IMPORTANTLY, BY LIVING AND WORKING IN A DIFFERENT SOCIETY, THERE ARE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR VALUE BOMBARDMENT, CULTURAL SHOCKS, AND CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING AND ADAPTIVE ADJUSTMENTS.
